What interstate goes through columbia south carolina?

Interstate 26 is an east-west highway that connects South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee. Cities on the route include Charleston, Columbia and Spartanburg in South Carolina, Asheville, North Carolina and Johnson City, Tennessee. The I-26 runs between the Broad and Saluda rivers and descends from the mountains to the foothills or the central region. In Columbia, I-126 crosses the confluence of Broad and Saluda, which together form the Congaree, near the Columbia Canal and the water treatment plant.

I-26 continues to follow the Congaree until it enters the south through the Cooper and Ashley drains, and then descends to the coast. I-26 enters South Carolina just northeast of Landrum, heading southeast. The first major city along its route is Spartanburg, where it intersects with I-85 to Greenville and Charlotte. As the interstate runs through the terrain, it reaches Clinton, where travelers heading west can connect to I-385 to Greenville.

As it crosses the Sumter National Forest, it connects with Newberry before entering the Midlands. In Columbia, in a section known as Malfunction Junction, it connects with the I-20 to Augusta and Florence and with the I-126 to the city center; then it goes south over the Saluda River and enters Lexington County for the second of four times along its route. In Cayce, it connects with I-77 to Charlotte. South of Cayce, the Interstate goes up and down a few very long hills before reaching the outskirts of Orangeburg and the I-95 to Savannah and Florence.

Entering the relatively flat plains of the Lowcountry, the area is urbanized as the interstate invades North Charleston and Charleston. As the interstate curves through the peninsula formed by the Ashley and Cooper Rivers, it connects with I-526 to Savannah and Mount Pleasant. Near the end, it overlaps with US 17 from their new exchange (from Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge) to where the old crossing is and where I-26 ends (formally where the John P.

Grace and Silas N. memorial bridge) the I-26 in South Carolina has two existing routes and an old auxiliary one. The I-126 in Columbia and the I-526 in Charleston are secondary routes in their respective cities. The I-326 was an unsigned designation that was withdrawn from service and is now part of the I-77 in Columbia.

In the heart of the city center, the South Carolina State House of Representatives is a great place to take a guided tour or explore the hiking trails that surround the building. The state capital of South Carolina is a fantastic place to spend a weekend, one of my favorite getaways in the state. Interstate 26 angles south-eastward from upstate South Carolina to LowCountry and the Atlantic coastal plain. The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) operates and maintains a welcome center and seven rest areas along I-26. Interstate 26 (I-2) is an interstate highway in South Carolina that generally extends from east to west from near Landrum, in Spartanburg County, to the U.

At just 91 miles in length, Interstate 77 crosses only part of South Carolina, but is a corner of the state for outdoor activities and small towns. With the State Capitol, Fort Jackson, and the University of South Carolina crammed into the expanses of the city, it goes without saying that there are plenty of hotels. Taking Interstate 20 at this intersection can take you on great adventures in South Carolina and the South in general.
